Soot is agents as a service — here is what that means today

Soot is agents as a service you can own: the service is the work, and you choose where it runs. The four ways to run Soot, the status of each, and what is not offered yet.

People ask us whether Soot is agents as a service (AaaS). In a specific sense, yes: Soot is agents as a service you can own. You give recurring work — answering visitors, watching sources, writing, following up — to a small team of Soots that runs on schedule and asks you only when a person is needed.

The service is the work. Where it runs is your choice: on your machine, on your server, or with us. What Soot is not, today, is a hosted subscription you sign up for. Here is what exists, with the same status words we use on every page.

What "the service is the work" means

  • Small agents, real jobs. Each Soot gets one mission and only the tools you grant. Bigger work goes to a team: Soots hand off to each other inside a group.
  • It keeps running. Schedules, events, a website chat, a shared data pool and product knowledge keep the work moving between your visits. Nest's Needs you list collects only what a person must decide.
  • You stay in charge. You choose the model provider, the access and which actions wait for your approval. You can stop a run, and Nest shows every run and its estimated cost. Completed actions stay completed, and a workspace is not an OS sandbox, so grant tools with that in mind.

Four ways to run Soot

Run it yourself — Preview

Download the Soot app (Nest) for macOS or Windows. There is no Soot plan to buy; you pay your own AI provider and computer. The installers are unsigned preview builds and the Mac builds are not notarized; the download page says so and lists exactly the installers that exist.

Run it on your server — Preview

Keep the team on a server you own — with 2server's soot template or your own setup — and connect Nest to it. One runtime can serve several websites. 2found runs one runtime that serves 2found.dev, trysoot.com and 2novel.app.

Run it with us — Early access

Tell us the work. 2found sets up a Soot team and runs it with you, on our server or yours. By conversation only: there is no self-serve signup, price list or SLA. Start with the contact form and describe the work, or ask the chat on this site.

Soot Cloud — Planned

A hosted Soot you sign up for and use in the browser. Planned; no date and no waitlist.

The four side by side, with who runs each and what you pay for: trysoot.com/pricing.

What stays yours

A Soot uses the model provider you configure, including OpenAI-compatible endpoints, so your content goes to the provider you choose. Skills and tools come in packs; Soot Forge is a public catalog of them. Installing a pack grants nothing: you select the capability a Soot may use, and risky tools can be set to wait for your approval in Nest.

The proof is our own company

Since 14 October 2026, 2found's marketing, sales and support have run on a team of Soots. A radar scans sources and writes a daily brief, a writer drafts posts in English and Vietnamese, an editor reviews them and publishes to the blogs of 2found.dev, trysoot.com and 2novel.app and to Facebook, a support Soot answers visitors in the chat on those three sites, and a desk sorts the leads, questions and feedback they leave. People are asked only for hand-offs, such as a video, and for decisions.

It is light to run: on 17 October, on our server, the runtime serving seven Soots used about 42 MiB of RAM and under 1% of a CPU core. The team is copyable, too: examples/marketing-team in Soot Forge. How it works day to day: How 2found runs on its own agents.

Short answers

  • Is it really a service if I run it? The service is the work: Soots answer, watch, write and follow up on schedule. You choose where it runs — your machine, your server, or with us (early access).
  • Will it replace my team? No. Soots take small, recurring jobs; people keep the decisions.
  • Is it open source? No. Licence terms for Soot are not assigned. Forge packs carry their own licences.

Next step

Download Soot and give one Soot one recurring job. Or, if you would rather have it set up and run with you, talk to us.

We wrote this post ourselves, from the same published facts the Soots use, and it passed the same fact check before it went live.
